The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 includes $7.2 billion directed toward Broadband Stimulus funding as adminstered through the Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and The Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA). These funds are intended to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved communities across the U.S., increase jobs, spur investments in technology and infrastructure, and provide long-term economic benefits. This legislation was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009 allowing service providers to fund projects that will build wireless or wireline broadband networks to customers that have been previously unserved or underserved.
